My general interests lie in the relationship between plants and ecosystem properties. More specifically, I am interested in exploring the interactions between biological life and its response to atmospheric changes, particularly increases in atmospheric nitrogen.

Research Focus:

My graduate research focused on the impacts of changes in shrub growth on the microclimate, and the consequent influence on Sphagnum carbon dioxide exchange at the Mer Bleue Bog located approximately 10 km east of Ottawa. As part of my research, I incorporated both a field and laboratory component. In the field, I looked at the changes in light, soil temperature and moisture (up to 40 cm) in response to increasing NPK applications. In the lab, I performed a growth study investigating the impacts of changing microclimate on Sphagnum productivity.
