Roger Tomlinson Research Lab for Geographic Information and Environmental Analysis.

This interdisciplinary research group and laboratory is a joint collaboration between Renee Sieber, Raja Sengupta, and Garry Peterson, and serves as a dynamic environment for undergraduate, graduate, post-doc and faculty research.

Dr. Roger Tomlinson (M.Sc. McGill, 1961) is universally considered to be the father of GIS. On May 31st, 2006 at its spring Science convocation McGill University conferred on him a Doctorate of Science, honoris causa. He also gave the the commencement speech to graduating students, a copy of which can be found at the hyperlink below. It is the first time McGill has given an honourary doctorate to a geographer.

The McGill Address

After the graduation ceremony he visited the Department of Geography where he officially named the Roger Tomlinson Research Lab for Geographic Information and Environmental Analysis. A copy of the tribute to him by the chair, Gordon Ewing, can be found at the hyperlink below.
